Kathryn and Peter first came to look at the Secret Garden in December 2020, looking to organise a wedding ceremony for late October 2021. Kat was particularly taken by the fact that she could pick her own flowers.

Her favourite flowers are Peonies, and of course, late October /early November is peony season here in The Secret Garden.

They were looking for a natural space that felt right for them as a couple, and with guests coming from Canberra and Wollongong a wedding in the Southern Highlands made a lot of sense.

They booked immediately, knowing that this was the spot they wanted.

Unfortunately, the pandemic stepped in, and with lockdowns in place everything had to be postponed till 2021.

A new date was set, everything reorganised and then a double east coast low hits the region and dumped over 800mls of rain on the garden a week before their chosen date.

With flooding, road closures and record-breaking rain, both Kat and Pete were a little concerned about whether their big day could go ahead. A few days out Kat was sent on a reconnaissance mission to check out the garden and whilst a little wet underfoot no damage had occurred, so she was very pleased to make the call and continue as planned.

The day started wet with a misty drizzle moving in and out all morning.

Fortunately, the rain cleared for the arrival of the bride.

Kat was accompanied by her sisters and her niece. Her bouquet, whilst not peonies, was still stunning with hot pink dahlias, blush pink roses and Phalaenopsis orchids.

Kathryn wanted to wander down through The Birch Grove towards the ceremony to access Megan’s Garden and whilst it was a little damp, with dresses held high, all were able to make their grand entrance, accompanied by Luke on guitar, to commence the ceremony.

Guests were able to partake in after ceremony drinks and have access most of the garden to have a wander whilst photos were being taken.

Around 5pm the Bride and Groom, their bridal party and guests moved onto their reception venue to continue the celebrations.

As always, we wish Kathryn and Peter all the best for their future together and feel privileged to have been a part of their wedding day.
